The Community Fund of Darien

The Community Fund of Darien leads the Human Services Planning Council (HSPC), a unique public-private partnership that brings together community leaders from nonprofits, town government, and schools, as well as clergy, volunteers and individual social service providers each month with the following mission:

  • Bring about community recognition and understanding of the needs of people in town and stimulate interest and participation in meeting such needs effectively;
  • Systematically plan for, implement and coordinate orderly development of a well-balanced social welfare program for the town, free from duplication and overlap; and
  • Promote the highest possible quality and efficiency in the provision of human services in the town.

The HSPC has approximately 30 members who meet monthly to discuss topics of relevance or urgent need in Darien. Many HSPC discussions lead to initiatives and action in the wider community. We are grateful for the meaningful contributions from all the members of the HSPC. Recent topics have included:

  • Domestic violence in Darien
  • Clergy report on needs of Darien residents
  • Services for Darien seniors
  • Affordability and accessibility of local mental health resources
  • Darien housing development update
  • Darien Police Department update on substance abuse, including heroin incidents
  • Darien “State of the Town” and state legislation that could impact human services in our town
